Borussia Dortmund eye shock loan move for Manchester City star

Borussia Dortmund eye shock loan move for Manchester City star

Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are reportedly keen on signing Cole Palmer on loan this summer.

Cole Palmer is subject to late transfer interest, according to a new report.

As the 20 year-old got a taste of first-team football at Manchester City last season, it’s safe to say the academy graduate rose to the challenge.

Despite getting a limited number of minutes, the youngster managed to score three goals in the Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

Furthermore, Pep Guardiola also handed the Wythenshawe-born wonderkid his first-ever Premier League start against Everton.

Tellingly, the Catalan boss entrusted the youngster to occupy the false nine role, which is a sign of how highly he rates his football brain.

With Cole Palmer looking like an instant fit at the elite level, the club decided not to bring in a replacement for the now-Chelsea man Raheem Sterling, with the teenager set to be a part of the senior team’s primary options out wide this term.

While it seemed as if the starlet was only behind Riyad Mahrez as the Sky Blues’ options on the right wing, Bernardo Silva’s recent impressive showing may mean he is unlikely to start anytime soon.

Considering a whole host of City’s most acclaimed youngsters went on loan to get a considerable amount of playing time, the question remains whether the same should be the case with Palmer in order to accelerate his development.

As one ponders what should be the next step in the silky attacker’s career, a European giant seems to be interested in his signature on a temporary basis.

According to a report by The SunSport, Borussia Dortmund are one of the many sides in Europe that are interested in signing Cole Palmer on loan.

Further details suggest that the German giants are keen on striking a deal with the Premier League champions before transfer deadline day next week.

While it is believed that a loan switch could benefit the tricky winger, who is need of more game time, Pep Guardiola is understood not to want to lose the player.

This is not the first instance in which both clubs will have done business involving one of the Sky Blues’ most gifted youngsters.

The likes of Jadon Sancho, Rabbi Matondo, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Jayden Braaf have all left the blue side of Manchester to represent the Bundesliga giants over the years.

City also saw off intense competition to sign Erling Haaland from the German club earlier this summer.

Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City will also meet in the UEFA Champions League, after the two sides were grouped together in Group G; alongside Sevilla and FC Copenhagen.

While Dortmund also have an exceptional track record of developing young players, it is unlikely that any move transpires, as Pep Guardiola has previously touched on how he envisions a path similar to Phil Foden for Cole Palmer.
